Our Story

1998

  • The Culture Group or 'OCG' as many clients call us, was born. We were a group of do-gooders with a humble mission;

"help companies build their cultures so that people want to stay and give their best.”

  • We used words like “spirit”, “mentor”, “kindness”, “mindfulness”, and “integrity” long before they were hip.   To this very day, we embrace collaboration as our company members bring experience and expertise from both the United States and Canada.
  • Eric Klein released his first book, Awakening Corporate Soul: Four Paths to Unleash the Power of People at Work
  • With formal backgrounds in Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, Education,  Human Resources, Data Analysis, Healthcare Management and Leadership, we combined our knowledge and experiences to write, create, produce and pilot workplace change programs that addressed challenges such as;  workplace satisfaction, service excellence, attraction and retention, personal engagement, leadership mindfulness, burnout and renewal and many more.
  • From the boom of the 90’s and the TQM craze to the work-life balance revolution, we responded to the importance of achieving employee satisfaction,  battling employee burnout and supporting corporate and leadership renewal.

2000

  • We created engagement surveys that measured employee satisfaction and early in the 2000's we developed a family, resident and client satisfaction survey specifically for Long Term Care. We pushed the conversation further by creating renewal programs, compassionate service programs and generational diversity training that would deepen the conversation and effect positive change.

2006

  • Olivia McIvor published her first book, The Business of Kindness: Creating Work Environments Where People Thrive

2008

  • In 2008 the financial crisis hit North America hard and we were asked by a large resource company to create a program that would assist employees in rebuilding collaboration and trust. Could we assist in improving communication,  built trust, improved motivation and morale? It had them on the path of understanding what it meant to be resilient and left them better equipped to embrace the challenges ahead.

2010

  •  Valuing the skills and talents of the generations was a big culture shift for workplaces across North America. Companies were focused on succession planning and attracting, engaging and retaining the best and the brightest; Four Generations: One Workplace: Sharing in the Information Age was published that year, Olivia McIvor's second book. It educated people on the generations, but it produced a wealth of insights on the depth of wisdom within the walls of the organizations we worked with – in real time. To date, it is the expertise we are asked  to share the most.

2011

  • We presented our research on the synergy between ‘service’ and ‘compassion’ and how the movement toward compassionate care models was impacting our North American long term care ideology and in Singapore.

2013

  • Creation and launch of the KEI (Kindness Engagement Index) an assessment tool for teams or companies interested in the kindness of their culture. We couldn't imagine the uptake of this little tool as it provided the data and the model for our workplace culture enrichment initiative. Kindness became a serious cultural descriptor and our work to influence cultures of kindness was embraced.

2018

  • Fast forward to #Metoo and #Times up and, our the formal initiative designed to harness workplace positivity, address and halt bullying, sexism and workplace violence and this modest but powerful idea evolved once again. We created  micro teachings to effect the day-to-day interactions of people within any culture and harnessed the commitment, passion and strength of people who want their workplaces to be safe and kind spaces for everyone. From full scale cultural enrichment (think culture change with a heart) to self directed modules to build individual character traits specific to activating empathy to a new online learning platform  designed to allow everyone access to our research and learning tools.

2019-2020

  • Then,  December 2019 hit us all and COVID changed the way we engaged with everything. Our Coaching went online, Team mentoring and resilience steering was critical and we worked to build a platform whereby individuals could learn and be supported online so we could continue to support the needs  of our clients.  We produced Mindful Meditations  and they went mainstream and our work to help our clients in a time of uncertainty was 24/7. And here we are today, helping people work through change and to provide that foundational consistency so our lives continue to feel purposeful, meaningful and fulfilling.

2020-2022

  • Covid changed how we work, how we connect, and how we treat one another. Zoom, WebEx and MS Teams made it possible to stay connected with our clients, continue consulting and continue to aid the teams who used us and the time through Covid, to work on soft-skill development.
